Check back here as complete details, including fee information, for the 2016 Family Adventure Weekend at Camp Bedford become available. * * * Ah, Summer Camp. Fresh air, fun, and friendship. Some of a boy's fondest memories of Scouting are formed at summer camp, and we highly encourage every Scouting family to consider sending their Cub Scout to camp this summer. Camp Bedford is a beautiful facility located on the shores on Clear Pond, just off Route 30, north of Paul Smiths near Meacham Lake State Campground -- please click here for additional details on the many amenities and features of the camp facility, which encompasses more than 150 acres owned by Twin Rivers Council, and is surrounded by thousands of acres of State Wild Forest.
Family Adventure Weekend at Camp Bedford will be run as a weekend family camp, with Scouts and their families spending the weekend attending camp together. BSA family camping rules will apply, which means that at least one parent or legal guardian must be present for all Scouts in the same family, unless the express written consent of the Camp Director has been obtained. Parents who, because of work or other commitments, are unable to arrive with their child or need to depart early will be able to do so, as long as they are with their child during the nights.
The early registration fee (available through May 15th) for each Scout for the weekend will be $40, including meals, belt loops and other advancement items, and an official summer camp T-Shirt. In families with more than one Cub Scout attending camp, the registration fee for the second and each additional Scout attending is $35. Siblings and parents will be able to attend for $20 (T-Shirts for siblings and parents are not included in the registration fee, but will be available for an extra cost of $10 per shirt). Children ages 5 and under are free. There is a special discounted family rate of $90, which includes two adults and either two Scouts, or one Scout and one sibling. Early registration fees are available through May 15th -- after that, fees go up, so please, register today!
The program will be geared towards outdoor activities that take advantage of Camp Bedford's gorgeous location and amenities. Among the many program offerings will be an Archery program designed so Cub Scouts will be able to earn their Archery belt loop, which can only be earned at a District or Council-run camp program. There will also be fishing, sports and games, crafts, and evening campfires and astronomy programs.
