Adirondack Wildlife Refuge -- Cub Scout Pack 5's Wolf Den had a special visit from Adirondack Wildlife Refuge on May 5, 2011, where the boys learned all about the rescue and rehabilitation of injured animals, and were able to view up close several different types of owls.

Keeseville Spring Clean-Up -- Keeseville Pack 5 enjoyed a spectacular spring day on April 30th, 2011 to help clean up litter in downtown Keeseville. Nearly a pickup truck-load full of trash was collected, and afterwards Scouts and their families enjoyed an outdoor BBQ.
Homestead Maple Tour -- On March 26th and 27th, Pack 5 travelled to Chazy to learn about how maple syrup is made, and afterwards, Scouts were able to sample some of the finished product (Yum!).

Pinewood Derby 2011 - Pack 5 met up with Pack 54 in Ausable Forks for a joint Pinewood Derby on February 19th, 2011. Over 30 Scouts enjoyed a great day of racing excitement, which was extensively covered in the Press Republican! Our Scouts showed they are ready for the District Pinewood Derby at the Champlain Valley Transportation Museum on May 14th.
Adirondack District Klondike Event -- Fresh off of our own winter extravaganza, Cub Scout Pack 5 headed to Macomb State Park on February 12th for the Adirondack District Cub Klondike. The boys enjoyed some different games and skill events on a beautiful winter day.
Pack 5 Cub Klondike Winter Extravaganza -- On January 29th, 2011, Pack 5 met on the shores of Auger Lake for a day of outdoor winter activities. After a short flag ceremony and safety briefing, Scouts were able to participate in a slew of fun winter activities, including ice fishing, sled races, showshoeing, tug-of-war and snowball tossing. The Wolf den helped prepare delicious foil meals for the entire Pack, and then later everyone toasted marshmallows over a campfire. Most of the Scouts were able to earn their fishing belt loops.
Tiger visit to Mountain Lake PBS -- Our Tiger Den headed up to Plattsburgh on January 26th, 2011, for a tour of the Mountain Lake PBS Studio. Scouts were able to learn a little about television show production, and were able to see how they looked on TV!
Wolf Den Trip to a Customs and Border Protection Station -- On January 17th, 2011, the Wolf Den (accompanied by a couple of Tiger Cubs) travelled to Champlain, NY to tour a CBP Station. As part of learning about how CBP protects our country's borders, the Scouts looked through high-tech night vision goggles, sat on special tracked ATVs, watched demonstrations of how CBP agents subdue uncooperative suspects, saw how fingerprints are taken, and even sat in a CBP patrol car.
Holiday Hayride, Caroling, and Fire Station Tour -- Even a rainy day couldn't drown our Scouts' spirits, as they sang holiday carols at Keeseville Country Gardens retirement community, after a tour of the Keeseville Volunteer Fire Department. November 2010 Pack Awards Ceremony -- Photos of the advancement ceremony and Potluck held on November 14th at the Keeseville Elks Lodge.
Webelos Den Launch Model Rockets -- On November 14th, the Webelos Den launched the model rockets they had made. Only one rocket (launched by one of the leaders) got stuck in a tree, so the day was very successful.
Tiger Den Trip to Babbie Farms Learning Museum -- On November 7th, 2010, the Tiger Cub Den travelled to Babbie Rural & Farm Learning Museum in Peru, NY to learn about the history of farming in the area since the 1850s. Scouts rode on an antique stagecoach, and watched demonstrations of how people used some of the old, manually-operating farming implements at the museum.
Trip to Rulf's Orchard -- On October 30th, 2010, members of our Pack travelled to Rulf's Orchard in Peru, NY for an afternoon of fun exploring a huge corn maze.
Thankfully, all of our Scouts were able to successfully navigate the maze and make it back to civilization!
Cub Harvest Fun Day at Camp Boyhaven -- On October 23rd, 2010, Pack 5 travelled to Camp Boyhaven, just outside of Saratoga Springs, to join hundreds of other Cub Scouts throughout the Twin Rivers Council for a day of fun, with games, archery, pumpkin painting, and other Scouting activities. A great day was had by all!
Tour of U.S. Customs and Border Protection Station at Plattsburgh Airport -- A large group of Pack 5 Scouts recently toured the U.S. Customs and Border Protection command center at Plattsburgh Airport. We talked with CBP officers about their mission, and were able to climb inside some of the aircraft used to protect our nation's border.
2010 Pinewood Derby -- Pack 5 held a joint Cub Scout Pinewood derby with Pack 54 of Ausable Forks on February 13, 2010. Boys work with their families over the winter to design and build the cars out of a rectangular block of wood.
The boys had a great time at the event, looking at all of the creative cars and watching them race to a photo finish.
Earth Day 2010 -- On April 22, 2010, Cub Scouts from Pack 5 decided to do a "good turn" and swarmed over the banks of the Ausable River in Keeseville to pick up bags of garbage and debris, with impressive results. |
